In January TFT held a workshop in income generation to empower mothers of children in orphanages and vulnerable children to learn parenting skills, financial management, positive thinking and other skills like sewing, smocking and embroidery to produce goods which can then be sold.
Most children sent to orphanages are known as “Social Orphans” because the parents do not have a steady income and believe this to be a good option. Many families think and feel like they are doing the best for their children, not knowing the psychological or physical damage caused from orphanage care.
This is why as part of our child prevention programme we are focusing on helping families who simply need income generation training, empowerment and support to keep their families together. We have found there is a huge appetite to learn. #childrenbelonginfamiliesnotorphanages
