
"Two decades ago, the Asian tsunami tragically claimed the lives of over 230,000 people, forever altering countless others. By an extraordinary turn of events, we had cancelled our Christmas holiday in Sri Lanka and visited family in Australia instead. Even during our flight transfer in Singapore, we felt unsettling vibrations, unaware of the unfolding disaster.
Five weeks later, volunteering at an orphanage proved one of the most profoundly shocking and life-altering experiences. However, the most poignant and haunting image that remains with me this morning is the sight of hundreds of discarded flip-flops washed ashore – silent testimonies to the lives tragically lost on that fateful day.
