The Story of Saluni and Senaka
Saluni, now 12, and Senaka, 13, greeted us shyly with smiles and laughter. Their father, once a struggling single parent who was forced to place his children in an orphanage, now provides for them as a tuk-tuk driver. In 2015, after a lengthy and emotional legal process, TFT successfully reunited this loving family, which enabled them to begin a new chapter together.
They once lived in a small shed deep in the jungle with no water, sanitation, or electricity. TFT’s supporters raised the necessary funds to build a new home, providing the family with much-needed stability. Today, they thrive in a comfortable, safe environment, and the children are flourishing both academically and socially. This transformation is a direct result of our commitment to keeping families together and providing the resources they need to succeed.

A new Home for Nilanthi’s family
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the completion of a new home for loving mum Nilanthi and her three children. This achievement is particularly meaningful because of the many challenges the family has faced. Nilanthi, who has battled severe health issues including life-threatening heart surgery, had been living in a deteriorating and unsafe home. Back in 2021, supporters Joan and Nick, visited the family with us and were horrified by the living conditions. The roof was partially gone, and the children had no protection from the elements. However, their situation worsened when a fire destroyed what little they had, leaving them homeless.
TFT stepped in, providing temporary accommodation and launching a fundraising campaign to build a safe and permanent home. The construction process, managed by Mr Percy and his dedicated team, was fraught with delays and obstacles, but they persevered. Today, Nilanthi and her children proudly stood outside their new home, a secure and comfortable space equipped with running water and electricity – basic necessities that many take for granted but which were out of reach for this family for so long.
The ceremony was filled with emotion as Nilanthi expressed her deep gratitude. Her story of struggle, fear for her children’s future, and relief at finally having a home brought everyone to tears. This home, and the stability it represents, is a turning point for her family. It stands as a testament to TFT’s commitment to changing lives, one family at a time, through targeted and sustainable interventions.
Ranil’s Inspiring Comeback!
We are thrilled to bring you the heartening story of Ranil, a resilient father whose life took a tragic turn during the Covid pandemic and economic crisis. Ranil’s small cottage toy-making business, which once supported his family, was shattered, leaving him without the means to provide for his wife and two long-term sick children. The situation became dire, and in desperation, Ranil reached out to TFT, hoping for medicine and educational support to help keep his loving family together.
Instead, we supported Ranil to relaunch his beautifully handcrafted toys. These have since caught the attention of Sri Lanka’s largest retailers, and he has successfully secured a number of contracts to supply stores across the country! This milestone is a testament to Ranil’s sheer determination, and his wife’s creative skills.
By supporting Ranil, we are not just helping one family—we are supporting a poor community. Ranil can employ and train more local women, empowering them to work from home and provide for their families. This initiative will create a ripple effect of positive change, offering new opportunities for those who need them most.
